Acute Assessment Unit
About us
Sunshine ward is our paediatric inpatient ward. A dedicated team of paediatric nurses and doctors look after children needing admission from the paediatric assessment unit or the children’s emergency department.
Patients staying on the ward have a TV next to the bed, and there is a big playroom with lots of toys to play with. The Play team are available every day to provide fun and exciting activities for when you are in hospital. There is a foldable bed that can be put down at night time so that a parent or career can sleep next to their child.
Throughout your stay you will meet nurses, doctors and health care assistants that will explain and provide your care. Allied health professionals such as physiotherapist, dietician and pharmacists will also be available and may be involved in providing your care on admission. The team will keep you updated and informed from admission through to discharge and are there to make your admission a safe and positive experience.
Parent Information
One parent can stay overnight with their child whilst they are admitted onto Sunshine Ward and a Parents room is available for use and to make hot and cold drinks and have something to eat. Meals are provided for all patients and breastfeeding mothers. Daily Car Parking permits can be purchased at Main reception.
