Please see below information about PAU, children’s outpatients and paediatric referrals.

The Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) is open 24 hours a day, seeing acutely unwell children and babies. Children can be referred here from the Paediatric Emergency Department or from their GP. If you are a GP wishing to make an acute referral, please call Kingston Hospital switchboard (0208 546 7711) and ask for the on call Paediatric Team – this will be put through to a mobile phone during the day and a bleep at night.

Children may be asked to attend the Paediatric Emergency Department if they sound very unwell, or may be asked to come directly to Dolphin Ward. They are triaged by a nurse and then assessed by a nurse practitioner or doctor. From here, children may be discharged home, observed for some time or admitted to Paediatrics on Sunshine Ward.

We have produced a number of downloadable patient information leaflets.

Referrals to Kingston Hospital’s Paediatric Rapid Access Clinic should be sent as an e-referral to Paediatric General Medicine Service-Kingston Hospital-RAX where they will be triaged by a consultant.

In ERS, under ‘Children’s and Adolescent Services’, please select ‘Other Medical’ as the clinic type.

Please note: the Trust does not have a specific Rapid Access Clinic referral form, but GPs can send the referral as urgent or title the referral ‘Rapid Access Clinic’ if they wish.
