Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP)
About us
The Macmillan service is a joint venture between Macmillan Cancer Support and Kingston Hospital. We want to ensure that if you are affected by cancer, you have access to comprehensive, expert information and support.
Our service is staffed by a health professional and trained volunteers, some of whom have experience of living with cancer. We can help anyone – patients, their relatives, friends and carers – with concerns about cancer.
You’ll find us Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm (except Bank Holidays) on the ground floor of the Sir William Rous Unit. You don’t need an appointment.
Our information and support
When you visit our information centre, you’ll be greeted either by our manager or a trained volunteer. You’ll find a range of information leaflets on all aspects of cancer.
Some of our resources are available in different languages or a larger print. We also have a range of information for people with learning disabilities. Macmillan Cancer also provide animation films about cancer in different languages.
Coffee mornings – how your money could help
One in two of us will face cancer, and the money you raise at your Coffee Morning will help everyone with cancer to live life as fully as they can.
- £48 could help run our Online Community forum for over 3 hours. Typically, that would give nearly 333 people affected by cancer both emotional and practical support.
- £100 could pay for a person affected by cancer to attend a health and wellbeing event, providing them with skills to improve the management of these areas in their lives.
- £285 could pay for a Macmillan grant that helps a family affected by cancer take a holiday and enjoy precious time together.
- £573 could pay for a Macmillan Social Care Worker for a week, helping patients, family members and carers manage the social and practical problems of living with cancer.
- £1148 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a week, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.
You can make a donation on the Macmillan website.
Wellbeing workshops
We also hold a series of free workshops throughout the year to support patients with cancer and their family or carers. These include a series of wellbeing workshops on topics such as mindfulness, relaxation, art therapy and facing the world. A small sample of these workshops can be viewed at the following links:

Look good, feel better workshops
These are make-up and confidence building workshops held every two months at the unit. For women who may have lost their eyebrows, need skin advice due to chemotherapy. A wonderful way to get support from other patients going through similar experiences.
For more information visit the Look good feel better website.
